YUSHI Ultrasonic Quick Change Probe and Wedge for Welding Inspection
Product Summary

When used with interchangeable wedges, the detachable single crystal probe transmits refracted waves (shear waves or longitudinal waves) into the component. This configuration is commonly used for welding integrity testing. This design allows for easy front and rear scanning and improves the detection efficiency near the surface.
The Working Principle
The detachable probe consists of a probe and a wedge, which can be separated as separate components. By utilizing the principle of refraction, mode conversion occurs at the interface between two media, generating refracted transverse or longitudinal waves in the test workpiece. In a typical inspection, the sound beam propagates downwards at the generated angle to the bottom surface of the workpiece, and then reflects upwards at the same angle. By moving the probe back and forth, the sound beam can scan the entire height of the weld seam. This scanning action can inspect the entire weld volume and detect discontinuities along the fusion line and within the weld volume.

In the following example, the sound beam passes through a qualified weld without reflecting back, so there will be no defect indication on the screen. In other images, the discontinuity in the welding area can cause strong reflection of the sound beam, and the defect area is highlighted by a red grid.
