What is the TOFD?
TOFD is "Time-Of-Flight Diffraction", which is based on Huygens Diffraction Principle. It's a Nondestructive Testing method with ultra-high accuracy.TOFD testing is usually used for confirming the location, characteristics and evaluation of defects in the material. This method utilizes the symmetrical arrangement of two transmitting and receiving probes to capture diffraction signals from defect tips.

As we can see in the picture, when the ultrasonic waves encounter defects or interfaces between different midium within a mterial, diffraction occurs, altering the wave's propagation path and time. By measuring the time difference between the transmission and reception of the ultrasonic waves, the location and size of the defects can be identified.

Advantages of YUSHI TOFD Probes
When YUSHI TOFD probes are connected with the wedges, they will transmitt the ultrasonic wave that will diffract at the lower tips or upper tips of the defects and the bottom of the material.The time difference between the trasmitting and received signals will directly indicate the localization and characteristic of the cracks, inclusions or other flaws.
