How do the ultrasonic probes work?

The ultrasonic thickness gauge is a measurement of the thickness of the workpiece, when the ultrasonic pulse emitted by the probe reaches the material interface through the measured object, the pulse is reflected back to the probe, and the thickness of the measured material is determined by correctly measuring the time of ultrasonic wave propagation in the material. This principle can be used to measure any material that allows ultrasonic waves to propagate within it at a constant speed.
How to choose the proper probes for different YUSHI Thickness Gauges?
For Small Pipes
1.PT-04(7.5Mhz,4mm):Fingertip probes PT04 with small contact surface are suitable for thin and small-diameter pipe fittings. Can be connected with thickness gauge models: UM-2 series, UM-4 series, UM-5 series(0.6-12mm).
2.PT-06(7.5Mhz,6mm):Probe PT-06 is suitable for measuring pipes with a diameter of ≥15mm and a wall thickness of ≥2.0mm, can be connected with thickness gauge models: UM-2 series, UM-4 series, UM-5 series.
3.TC705(10Mhz,5mm):TC 705 is a type of composite crystal for high resolution on thin materials. And it's very excellent for small contacting areas.



For General Thickness Measurement
1.PT-08(5Mhz,8mm):Conventional probe PT-08, which can be used for most thickness measurement purposes, is suitable for measuring the wall thickness of pipe wall with a diameter of ≥ of more than 20mm, this probe is the standard probe of UM-1 series and UM-2; Also suitable for thickness gauge models: UM-4 series and UM-5 series.
2.PT-12(5Mhz,10mm):PT12 probe: It is a kind of conventional integrated-line probes with 5MHz frequency, 10mm wafer size. Contact surface diameter is about 13mm, its height is about 26mm, when measuring pipe, the outer diameter of the pipe is required to be greater than 30mm, and the temperature is -10°C~70°C.
3.TC510(5Mhz,10mm): The standard probe TC510 is suitable for measuring the wall thickness of pipes with a diameter of more than 25mm, and this probe is the standard probe of UM-4 series and UM-5 series ultrasonic thickness gauges.
4.TC550(5Mhz,10mm): Standard probe TC550, Its measuring range can reach 1-200mm and contact surface diameter can reach to 13.5mm. This kind of probe is suitable for measuring pipe wall thickness above 25mm. It is regarded as updated TC510, the suitable thickness gauges models are UM-4 and UM-5 series.




For Special Materials
1.ZT-12(2Mhz,12mm):Cast iron probe ZT-12 has better penetration, it is easier to measure materials with high attenuation, coarse grains or difficult to measure, and the measurement range is relatively large. Suitable for all series of ultrasonic thickness gauges (except PM-5 series).
2.TC110(1Mhz,12mm):TC110 probe, using imported chips, is suitable for measuring the thickness of coarse grains and non-metallic materials. It has better measurement effects for measuring non-metals such as PE, PVC, FRP, etc.
3.TC210(2Mhz,10mm):TC210 ultrasonic probe is a composited ultrasonic transducer that offers great penetration for long distance measurement(2-200mm).



For High Temperature Measurements
High-temperature probe GT-12(3Mhz,10mm), using high-temperature ceramic material, can be used to measure the thickness of pipes or plates with the temperature of ≤ 480°C.

How do I select the right probe for my material (e.g., metal, plastic) and thickness range?
1.For thin materials (e.g., 3mm metal sheets): A higher frequency probe (e.g., 10MHz) is recommended.
2.For thick or coarse-grained materials (e.g., cast iron, thick plastic): A lower frequency probe (e.g., 2-5 MHz) is better.
3.For general-purpose use on common metals (steel, aluminum): A 5 MHz probe is a standard and versatile choice.
Is the probe compatible with my ultrasonic thickness gauge?
