Forwords
In the field of NDT industry, measuring the thickness of thick coatings covering metal substrates has always been a technical challenge. However, the PM5 Gen3 developed by YUSHI can perfectly solve this problem. This powerful thickness gauge can successfully achieved the breakthrough of penetrating 49mm PE coating to directly measure the thickness of 25mm steel substrate by carrying a low-frequency protective film probe,providing an efficient and reliable detection solution for energy, chemical, shipbuilding and other industries.

Technical Highlight
PM5 GEN3 can be paired with protective membrane probes to select the E-E measurement mode. And achieve the optimal state of the waveform through multiple adjustable waveform parameters.
The protective membrane probe developed by YUSHI has three functions:firstly, reducing the friction coefficient to 0.1 to ensure coupling on the rough coating surface; Secondly, avoid wearing out the probe and reduce usage costs; Thirdly, reduce ultrasonic scattering through special design. Actual test data shows that the protective film increases the lifespan of the probe by four times compared to traditional models.

Operation Experience
The device adopts a portable handheld design and is equipped with a black anti slip and anti fall protective cover on the original shell. It weighs only 0.39kg and is suitable for long-term operation. The front color display screen integrates three core functions:
(1) Real time display of thickness measurement values (as shown in the figure at 25.00mm) with an accuracy of 0.01mm;
(2) The A-scan waveform diagram visually displays the ultrasonic echo signal and determines the coating/substrate interface based on the peak position;
(3) B-scan waveform diagram visually simulates the cross-sectional view of the tested workpiece;
(4) Differential reduction rate mode, by setting the original thickness of the tested item, the instrument can automatically display the thinning value and its percentage;
(5) The ultrasonic speed display (5922m/s as shown in the figure) supports custom material parameters to improve detection adaptability.
The layout of the operation interface is simple, with physical buttons including "MODE" (switch measurement mode), "←" "→" (adjust parameters), "CAL ON" (one click calibration), etc. Combined with display prompts, beginners can also quickly get started. A shipyard inspector gave feedback: "Compared to traditional equipment that requires complex parameter settings, the parameter configuration storage and retrieval function of PM5Gen3 has shortened the single point inspection time from 5 minutes to 1 minute.
