About Plastic Pipe
During the production process, the wall thickness of the plastic pipe must be tested to see if it meets the technical requirements. If the pipe wall is too thin, it may break during use. If the pipe wall is too thick, too much raw material is wasted. Ultrasonic thickness measurement is a fast and reliable method of measuring the wall thickness of pipes because it only requires contact with one side of the material to be measured, without cutting the pipe. If you need to monitor multiple points in the production process, choose our multi-channel measurement option. Ultrasonic thickness gauges can also measure the wall thickness of in-service pipes to detect changes in wall thickness over the course of their life.

Samples Analysis

These are tested samples that sent by our customers. They are plastic pipes that have various thickness values and diameters. Our clients said that they can hardly use normal thickness gauges to inspect the thicknesses of them, so they need a new powerful and high-precision ultrasonic thickness meausrement meter to achieve the inspection targets.
Measurement Analysis
Plastic pipe thickness measurements are a common application for ultrasonic thickness gauges. The measurement process consists of simple pulse/echo detection, where the ultrasonic thickness gauge measures the round-trip propagation time of the pulse and calculates a thickness value using the time value and the speed of sound of the material being measured. For common sizes of plastic pipe, the 5-15MHz probe can be used to measure wall thicknesses of approximately 0.5-25mm, the 2.25MHz probe can be used to measure wall thicknesses of approximately 25-80mm, and the 0.5MHz probe can be used to measure thicknesses of 80mm and above. For special materials, please contact us for specific advice on probe selection.

The Measurement Results
According to the various thicknesses and diameters, we select different probes to realize accurate thickness measurements. We can see the results showed in the pictures.

Ultrasonic thickness gauges can be used to measure the thickness of all common plastic materials, including containers, pipes, tubes, plates, etc. If you have the same measurement requirements or questions, please feel free to contact us, we will provide you with specific advice on instrument and probe selection, and provide you with professional measurement solutions.
