About Workpieces
We used to use ultrasonic thickness gauge to measure the thickness of the material, often encountered small diameter tubes, materials including metal, glass, plastics, etc., and rounded corners and other samples with curvature, typically represented by stamped parts. The world's steel, 60 to 70% of the plate, most of which are stamped into finished products. Automobile body, chassis, fuel tanks, radiator panels, boiler ladle, container shells, motors, electrical appliances, iron core silicon steel sheet, etc. are stamping process. Instruments, household appliances, bicycles, office machinery, household utensils and other products, there are also a large number of stamping parts.

Measurement Analysis
YUSHI offers a wide range of ultrasonic thickness gauging probes in a variety of types and sizes. Selecting an appropriate probe is a critical first step in the inspection process. To properly select a probe, a number of factors need to be considered, including the thickness, material and geometry of the part being measured. Knowing that YUSHI has high sensitivity pen probes and pen probe holders for accurate measurement of curved surfaces, the customer sent us several stamped parts, hoping that we could measure the thickness at the bends of the stamped parts.
Given the typical shape and small thickness of stamped parts, we usually want to use a small diameter delay line probe to complete the measurement. In general, the probe should be selected based on the specific part shape, and we most often recommend probes with Φ2, Φ3 and Φ6 contact surfaces. However, for a typical small diameter pipe or a rounded surface with a small R-angle, in order to effectively couple the acoustic energy to the small diameter part to be measured, we must focus the acoustic beam to a very small point.

The measured workpiece has a small measuring surface, and the sharp, narrow delay block end makes it difficult to keep the probe perpendicular to the surface of the measured material, which can lead to a reduction in the signal amplitude, or even a complete loss of signal. It is inconvenient during the measurement process and requires the inspector to keep moving the probe to find the optimal measurement angle. In response to this measurement problem, it is effective for us to provide these probes with spring-equipped holders with a V-shaped groove at the front end of the holder, which makes it easy to keep the probe in a stable and perpendicular state during the inspection process.

Measurement Results
With the YUSHI PM5 Gen2 Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge, the real-time A-scan waveform can be adjusted to provide you with the measurement information you need to ensure that the correct bottom echo is selected. With the help of the pen-type probe and the stand, you can well let the probe vertically coupled to the object to be measured, so to achieve accurate and stable thickness measurement. For even easier and faster completion of the measurement, optional use of the instrument's high-speed measurement, automatic freezing, or directional capture features can be used to capture and freeze the perfect bottom surface echo. The thickness values of automobile stamping parts are 0.7-0.8mm, which are within qualifying range.
