Something You Need To Know About Quartz Crucible

 

The quartz crucible is a kind of high-performance container which is made of high-purity quartz. It has become the key material in many fields because of its many core features of ultra-high temperature resistance,strong chemical stability and long service life. As the core container for silicon single crystal/polycrystalline growth in the photovoltaic industry, it directly affects the crystal purity and provides basic material protection for semiconductor wafer manufacturing.

In the production of PV wafers, quartz crucible needs to continuously carry molten silicon (above 1420℃), and its quality directly determines the photoelectric conversion efficiency of silicon wafers.

Measurement Significance

In the production process of silicon monocrystal and silicon polycrystal, quartz crucible as the core container carrying molten silicon above 1600℃, its thickness parameter is directly related to the uniformity of the thermal field, deformation resistance and service life, and it is the key index to guarantee the stability of crystal growth. Thickness inspection should be carried out throughout the whole life cycle management.

We received the samples from our customer, they said it's difficult to obtain accurate and stable thickness value using normal thickness gauge. However,our PM5 Gen2 can definitely achieve the requirements.

Measurement Analysis

 

The application of portable ultrasonic thickness gauge is much more convenient than the laboratory testing equipment, which can be used to test the thickness of quartz crucible anytime and anywhere and can store the measurement results, which makes up for the lack of laboratory testing of quartz crucible. Not only that, ultrasonic testing as one of the non-destructive testing methods, there has no damage to the measured object. 

Before we start, we need to select the proper probe to ensure we can get the best results. Here we used 5Mhz delay line probe. Using low-frequency probe, the ultrasound will penetrate the workpiece more easily despite the internal structure. 

 

Measurement Results

 

When the probe was coupled with the workpiece, the PM5 Gen2 would capture the waveform and thickness value. PM5 Gen2 can not only have Big-value Dispay Mode, but also has real-time A-scan Display Mode. Users can pause the waveform and adjust the parament against the frozen waveform. Calibrating the sound velocities according to the wavefrom is also available.
