What is "Fiberglass"?
Fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP), a highly sought-after material in the industry, has excellent corrosion resistance, high strength, and remarkable light weight characteristics, making it an ideal choice for pipe linings in numerous industrial fields. Through state-of-the-art composite technology, fiberglass can closely adhere to the inner wall of the pipe, forming a robust and smooth protective layer. This layer effectively withstands the challenges posed by harsh environments such as chemical erosion, water erosion, high temperature/pressure conditions, etc. Moreover, its outstanding insulation properties can also significantly assist in reducing energy loss and enhancing the overall energy efficiency of the pipeline system.
The application of fiberglass materials, a key innovation in modern pipeline engineering, not only prolongs the service life of the pipeline and cuts down on maintenance costs but also boosts the safety and efficiency of fluid transmission. It is indeed an essential and revolutionary material in contemporary pipeline engineering, playing a pivotal role in ensuring the reliable operation of pipeline systems.

The Significance of Measurement
The piping system's inner wall thickness must be tested relularly so that can ensure the safety for production. The use of ultrasonic thickness gauges to measure the inner walls of fiberglass is an extremely effective and accurate method when performing such inspections. Not only does ultrasonic thickness measurement not cause any damage to the piping material, but it also provides a wider range of inspections, ensuring that every detail is fully evaluated so that workers can identify and address safety hazards in a timely manner.
Measurement Analysis and Testing System
1.Measurement Analysis
The test sample provided by our customer is a section cut from a pipe. This pipe consists of three layers of materials. The innermost layer, which is made of fiberglass, is precisely what the customer requires us to measure with high accuracy.
2.Water Immersion System
YUSHI Ultrasonic Water Immersion thickness measurement technology effectively shields the air from the interference of ultrasonic propagation in aqueous media, which ensures the stability and clarity of the bottom echo and can significantly improving the accuracy and reliability of the measurement.
Actually, water is a kind of highly efficient coupling agent in many indusrial fields. It not only ensures the continuous operation of ultrasonic thickness measurement, but also to achieve the recycling of resources, in line with the environmental concepts.
Here we used PM5 Gen2 connected with 5MHz Immersion Probe,Cable and Immersion Tank.
Measurement Points
When using the PM5 Gen2 Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge for immersion thickness measurements, we need to know about two key points to ensure the accuracy and stability.
First, the thickness of the water layer between the immersion probe and the workpiece to be measured needs to be maintained appropriately. As the medium in which ultrasonic waves propagate, the thickness of the water layer directly affects the strength and clarity of the reflected signal received by the probe. The thickness of the water layer is adjusted so that the ultrasonic signal can propagate efficiently through the material and reflect sufficiently when it encounters the interface to be captured and analyzed by the probe and instrument.

Second, the ultrasonic probe must be perpendicular to the surface of the tested workpiece. The tilt angle can cause measurement errors. If the waveform cannot always display the correct thickness value when users have adjusted the thickness of water, then they need to consider adjusting the probe angle.
The picture shows the incorrect thickness value because the probe is not perpendicular to the sample.

The picture shows the correct thickness value.
